New Funding Announcement
We were successful under a new funding stream entitled Community Led Research and are thrilled to grow Seaweed School with the “Secret Lives of Seaweeds” a community-led science project to establish community seaweed biodiversity monitoring on Hornby Island and explore sustainable uses of beach-cast seaweeds for supplementing garden soil.
As part of our “Celebrating Seaweeds” we are engaged in reciprocal learning about Seaweeds strengthening relationships between the HIES-NHC and Comox Valley Indigenous educators and K'ómoks First Nation seaweed Knowledge Keepers. We commit to share the knowledge gained, generate affection, interest and curiosity in seaweed stewardship with public talks and through art workshops that celebrate the Biodiversity of Seaweeds.
