Join us for a guided exploration of Hornby Island's incredible shoreline and discover the fascinating world of seaweeds. Learn how to identify local species, explore the intertidal ecosystem, and contribute to a real long-term scientific monitoring project.
No experience is needed—just curiosity and a love of the outdoors!
What You'll Experience
🌿 A guided beach walk with local marine ecology experts
🪸 Learn to identify the amazing seaweeds of Hornby Island—including our local nori (Pyropia)

Why It Matters
Seaweeds are the forests of our oceans. They create habitat for marine life, help store carbon, support healthy coastlines, and have nourished coastal peoples for thousands of years. By joining the Big Seaweed Search, you'll help us build a long-term record of how Hornby's shoreline is changing while gaining a new appreciation for the incredible diversity living just beneath the tide.
No Experience Necessary
Training is provided on-site, and all ages and experience levels are welcome.
