Our guide and educator, Chaya, will walk you through the natural history and wonders of this park to give you a deeper connection and understanding of an important part of our little island.

Intertidal Exploration for Families
Some of the most diverse and interesting creatures thrive in the intertidal zones around Hornby's beaches. Join our guide, Chaya, who will show you the hidden gems that can be found, if you know where to look.
This is a great program for curious kids and adults, who want to know and see more of this beautiful island and the animals and seaweed that live here.
All Ages Welcome.

One of the best places to have fun and be creative is on the beach, which is why we have created this program to encourage kids to be innovative and inventive outside. We will explore textures, shapes, materials and 2D and 3D art while also allowing for the kids to take the initiative in their visions and ideas.
Ages 7+

This is an interactive forest walk that will engage and educate children on some of the more important species in our woods here on Hornby Island.
Through a type of treasure hunt, we will wander through a lesser-known trail where we can see three types of forest ecosystems all in a short span of time.

Bound By Nature: A Two-Day Eco-Printing & Bookmaking Workshop with Nora Ready
Bound By Nature is a two-day eco-printing workshop led by fibre artist Nora Ready, inviting you to explore the quiet beauty of the land through foraged materials and handmade bookmaking.
On Day 1, we’ll walk the land together, gathering local foliage and learning the bundle-and-steam method of eco printing.
Day 2, we’ll use a simple slip-knot binding technique to craft hand-bound booklets, with the option to embellish your prints and bindings using curated materials. Each creation becomes a reflection of place, season, and your own slow creative practice.
No experience is needed and all supplies are provided.
Just bring an apron, rubber gloves, and a spirit of curiosity.

Water Stewardship on Hornby Island with Michelle Nakano
Where, Why, and How to Do it. Fresh, potable water sources are limited on Hornby and reducing and reusing it both indoors and outside will help conserve this finite resource. Join water steward and landscape horticulture educator Michelle Nakano for an update on the quantity and quality of island water, and learn the practices to implement before winter to slow down rainfall for infiltration, filtration, storage and recharge of Hornby’s groundwater.

Our Friends the Crows & Ravens with June Hunter
Back by popular demand, Join us in what is bound to be an intriguing blend of science and storytelling as June introduces us to her Corvid neighbours. From their eerie intelligence to their complex social lives, June weaves personal observation with current research to explore what makes these birds so compelling—and how they continue to shape, and be shaped by, the landscapes we share.

Water is Life with Iggy Ochieng and Melada Schmid-Ochieng
In Swahili, people say "Maji ni Maisha", or "Water is Life".
Join Iggy Ochieng and his wife Melanda Schmid at Hornby's last remaining public well, operated by handpump.
See the well, and the use and care of water, through the eyes of a new Hornby Island resident who grew up in a small African village that relies, to this day, on handpump wells. And give your arms a workout trying out the pump yourself!
We will meet in the parking lot at New Horizons and enjoy a short walk to the well.
